Local media outlets, including CTV Northern News and the Sudbury Star, were onsite to capture the joy and excitement as Extendicare Countryside celebrated its grand opening with residents, family members, staff, and government officials.

“We’ve been serving residents and families of Sudbury for over 50 years, and as we celebrate the opening of this home, I want to say we’re celebrating the start of the next 50 years of service to this community,” said Dr. Michael Guerriere, Extendicare President and CEO, in comments echoed by the Sudbury Star.

In the news article, Dr. Guerriere also highlighted Extendicare’s future investments in the region, saying, "some of you may know that we also have Extendicare York not far away and we are very hopeful that we're going to start construction on another home almost just like this one in the very near future, again to bring more services to the people of Sudbury.”

The Honourable Stan Cho, Ontario’s Minister of Long-Term Care, was quoted in Sudbury.com saying, “This redeveloped home is a significant milestone for Sudbury and means 256 seniors will now have a new, modern and comfortable place to call home.”

CTV Northern News also featured Extendicare Countryside on its evening newscast and shared a look inside Sudbury’s new long-term care home.

In late March 2024, residents moved from the former Extendicare Falconbridge, a building more than 50 years old, to their brand-new home at Extendicare Countryside. Extendicare continues to redevelop every older long-term care home in our network, a key commitment in our multi-year, national Improving Care Plan .
